MS 50 Cell Phone and

Internet Enabled Device Policy

All student cell phones and internet enabled devices are not allowed to be used or carried during the instructional school day from 8:20am to 2:40 pm. All cell phones and personal internet enabled devices are turned in by students to their homeroom teachers during AM homeroom. All homeroom teachers have a lock box to store these devices. Devices are stored in the lockbox all day and returned back to students during PM homeroom. Any student who is dismissed early can retrieve their device from their homeroom teacher immediately prior to leaving. If a student does not adhere to this policy we will follow progressive discipline steps aligned with the NYCPS Discipline Code. If a student reports that a device was damaged or stolen, we will conduct an investigation, following NYCPS discipline code procedures.

IEP or 504 Related Exceptions - If a student has a documented disability or medical accommodation, they can be granted an exception to this policy. To attain this exception, a parent needs to submit a request and documentation to Principal Honoroff at bhonoro@schools.nyc.gov.

We will process and approve/disapprove exception requests in 48 hours.
